Sunday 5/22
9:00am: Zazen
10:00am: Dharma Talk
Priest: Genjo Yorke
In coming to a spiritual path, we naturally hope to nourish a better life, to help others, and to rely upon what is true. This is important and right; it is necessary on one level of our being to eschew our mistakes and short-sightedness and instead seek reality. How else could we take a step? Yet, Dogen Zenji tells us that “living beings are greatly deluded about realization; Buddhas greatly realize delusion.” Somehow, our mistakes, our fixations, our greed and hate are exactly what an Awakened One realizes. So, Zen practice immediately turns us back to clarify our initial step… perhaps the entire path itself is the depth of this single step: what really is this awakening? How can we re-imagine our chronic delusion to be a vital ally to path? This Sunday we’ll explore the realization of delusion and particularly how meditation practice allows the mysterious pivot of liberation to animate our lives.
